The good Samaritan

There are times when you feel you haven't done enough to the society. You feel empty and to an extent guilty too. We get immersed in our professional and domestic domains that everything else in this world becomes irrelevant or, worse, non-existent. There are times when the good Samaritan in us wakes up but we put him back to sleep with an overdose of irresponsibility and insensitivity. Then, suddenly, a few things happen and he's wide awake and poking our conscience.

I've been an online volunteer for UN but haven't been quite as active as required. Knowledge Harvester started off as a social venture which changed direction midway into a commercial one, and now exists only as a simple, noble thought in my mind which never was followed up seriously. Maybe, the lack of clarity in choosing the social or commercial path muddied the vision and spoilt the mission. While there is no one else other than myself to blame, I endeavored to give myself another chance to redeem myself. After all, a passion on which I worked for years together cannot be allowed to wither away. I do see there are lot of people who still need what I have sitting idly in my mind and my computer. Hello world!!! Here I come...

Two things happened to wake up the good Samaritan in me... Hey, believe me, I had one sleeping somewhere inside... One was a call from US and another was a mail from Delhi.  The call from US was from Dr. Nazeera Dawood of Ann Foundation. The mail was from Katha.org.

Ann Foundation was founded by "Ann Moideen" with a vision of "Educating and Empowering children with disabilities". More information about the great work they do is available at Ann Foundation Website. After a few hiccups in the beginning, I've started working on a few things that requires my expertise.

Katha is a NGO which wants to make India a learning nation. Their vision statement is "We create India's reader-leaders". They have a fantastic vision of taking the reading habit to everybody in India, irrespective of their social and financial status. More about their work is available at Katha Website They have sent me the initial set of books for review. Will be posting review soon.

Now that he is awake, I gotta get a few things done for both these wonderful organizations.

If somebody from my office is reading this... Don't worry, guys!!! This work is done during weekends and middle of the nights. So, these guys are not responsible for me not completing my tasks in time. I am the only one to be blamed ;)
