Each country has its own unique ways of cooking & serving food. Food is marvelous in all the countries. Eating epitomizes our personality. We have to be adventurous in our eating to savor and enjoy the food. Even eating different food shows our readiness to accept different cultures and also our open-mindedness. Initially, I was very reluctant to try different varieties of food. Later, I realized that I missed some great opportunities to socialize as well as experiment. There are certain varieties of food that taste very good in certain countries. Here are some suggestions:
I was a fairly conservative eater in Australia. That is where I started my adventurous eating. I really loved the pizza. I survived on the 5-dollar pizzas, literally, throughout my stay. The burgers as well as pizzas were better than any other country.
Malaysia is known for its variety of food. Chinese, Malay, Indian, Vietnamese, Thai food are available. As Malay is the native food, we’ll see which is good. Mee-curry, Mee-soup, Mee-Goreng are some of the better-known varieties of food. Satay sticks are great tasting fried chicken or beef pieces dipped in honey.
Singapore has great Chinese food to offer. There is a teaser, which says “CHINESE EAT ANYTHING THAT FLYS, CRAWLS, RUNS OR SWIMS”. Although Chinese are known for their non-vegetarian cooking, Chinese vegetarian is equally awesome. There is one particular restaurant in Orchard road, just opposite to Orchard MRT, where excellent vegetarian food is in offer.
Thailand has nothing special to offer. It just means that whatever you get in Thailand is special. You can eat anything, anywhere in Thailand. My personal preference is to start with hot ginger soup and then continue to a course, which consists of ginger chicken and prawns. You can point any item on the menu and have a great time, if you are in Thailand.
Middle east has its own variety of food. I liked the shourma very much. Shourma is chicken or beef, marinated in vinegar, wrapped in bread with yoghurt. The salty pickles were great as side dish.
If you like spicy food, nothing beats Indian. Indian food will blow you over with taste, if not by sheer variety. The eating habits are quite different in different parts of India. Northern and Southern India have a very distinct variety of food to offer. Northern food has wheat base whilst Southern food has rice base. The food available in south is spicy while the northern ones have a very unique sour/sweet taste. Southern Dosas and idlis can compete with Northern chapattis and parathas, anytime, anywhere. Throw in sambar and chatni against palak panneer and chenna, and you have a great competition to satiate your hunger, as well as to satisfy your taste buds. Northern or southern, eastern or western, India has a great variety to offer. It would be a crime, if you restrict yourself from eating, fearing an upset tummy.
